Today I’m talking about colour space which is the sRGB, Adobe RGB and prophotoRGB profiles. Colour spaces can be really confusing and there is a lot of conflicting information on line. But if you understand how it works, you can make better decisions in what to use, or what not to use, depending on what you intend on doing with your images. I am going to start with what colour profiles are, then the setting in camera and how it might affect your images, if at all… then how these different colour profiles will work in your computer. There are so many different colour profiles and if you look at your computer display settings, you can pick so many different ones but for photography all you need to know about is sRGB, AdobeRGB(1998) and ProphotoRGB…these are set standards… so from the camera taking a photograph, through to editing and printing, you will, in theory, get the same colour and by the computer making mathematical calculations, it can keep these colours as consistent as possible. I think there is a lot of misconception about supposed advantages of Adobe RGB vs sRGB in the photography community. It is easy to think looking at some of the colour space diagrams that AdobeRGB will deliver more colours than sRGB. However, this isn't the case. AdobeRGB is an RGB colour space that is designed to produce colours that match as close as possible to their CMYK equivalents so you don't see as much of an unwanted shift in your colours when you want to print using a professional press. When used incorrectly, Adobe RGB can actually produce unwanted results with incorrect colours. What I want to do with this video is guide you about what colour space to choose to output your edited RAW files in so you get the best result depending on where your final image is going.

Definitely sRGB, since it's the internet standard and most likely your monitor/computer setting/standard. IF your lab can print AdobeRGB, you can always save an AdobeRGB copy from your RAW file.

This is a demonstration of how JPG images captured in AdobeRGB or sRGB appear on different web browsers. This is one of the most hotly debated topics in photography, and here is the result from different browsers. Two files were captured in camera in sRGB and AdobeRGB settings, and each file was directly opened by Safari for Mac, Chrome and Firefox (for Mac). You will be able to see a visible difference. What is Delta-E? - If Color Gamut is the amount of color your screen can produce, what is Delta-E? - Delta-E is a certification that clarifies the level of accuracy at which your screen produces that range (you’ll see Delta-E less than 2 for example). - Delta-E is used to ensure the color being displayed closely matches what the human eye receives. RGB Vs CMYK - RGB: Red - Green - Blue (the combination creates whites). - CMYK: Cyan - Magenta - Yellow - Black (the combination creates black). RGB: Digital work such as video, social media, web design, 3D animations, etc... CMYK: Print work such as magazines, flyers, postcards, books, packaging, newsletters, etc.... Which gamut range should you pay attention to? - Adobe RGB is my go-to when recommending laptops for creative professionals. - sRGB is good, but it is definitely a smaller range and in turn will be less color accurate. Color Gamut range is a key element to a great graphic design, photo editing, video editing, and digital artist's laptop. When your laptop has the ability to accurately reproduce the colors on your screen you have a higher chance of nailing your clients expectations. When it comes to color gamut range you have 3 main classifications and in this video we're going to keep it simple and discuss tow of them. SRGB is a color gamut range most often seen on laptop spec sheets. It is a color gamut range. In this range are the colors that the laptop is able to reproduce. It is a good range, but not as expansive as Adobe RGB. Adobe RGB is a color gamut range larger the sRGB. Alright, I have been waiting for this product for the past 2-3 years and I am happy to announce that Acer is launching (has launched, depending on when you watch this video) a color-accurate monitor for under $400. ►⏩►⏩ Check specs and pricing in the links below… ► Acer ConceptD CM2 ( 🤍 - Commission Earned) There are a lot of great budget-friendly laptops that have excellent performance for video editing, motion design, graphic design, and photography to name a few creative professions. But often what I come across with these laptops is terrible color gamut range. So the solution is a color-accurate monitor that not only give you the color accuracy you need when working on crucial client work (or your own passion project), but also more screen space to improve your workflow. I spent some time using this monitor and I want to swap out my current Dell displays for this dreamboat. For all the techies out there this is a: 24in FHD IPS Display with a 16x10 aspect ratio Its max resolution is 1920x1200 75Hz Refresh Rate 1ms Response time 440 nits at full brightness And it weighs 12 Lbs It can connect: x1 Display Port x1 USB 3.0 Upstream x4 USB 3.0 Downstream x1 Headphone jack At night I found myself dimming the brightness a little bit because it is so crisp and bright, and then during the day I would increase it to combat the room light. In both scenarios, the monitor remained crisp and displayed my colors accurately as anticipated. Speaking of color accuracy, I test this monitor with the Data Color Spyder X Elite and it held up well, reaching: 100% sRGB 100% Adobe RGB 96% DCI-P3 Being that this monitor can accomplish that at under $400 is really a big deal to me. I am always trying to find a reasonably priced color-accurate monitor and can usually only find 90-100% sRGB color-accurate monitors, which averages out to only about 70-75% Adobe RGB color gamut range. For instance: Asus ProArt Display for around $300, but it is only 100% sRGB. Dell UltraSharp 4k IPS Monitor 27in for around $1200 Eizo Color Edge 24in reaches 99% Adobe RGB and costs around $850 When I say that this is a good buy, I mean it. It is a good deal.
