Restoring the original Xbox. In this episode I will restore this old Xbox. The console is very dusty and it has some problems, but nothing beyond restoration. The disc drive is stuck and it won't save the time and date if it's unplugged. Both are common problems with the Xbox and pretty easy to repair. This unit has been unused for along time and it also needs to be cleaned from all the dust on the inside and outside. I wanted to publish this episode right before Christmas have got this gaming console for Christmas almost 20 years ago. I wanted to keep the stickers at the bottom intact so I used isopropyl alcohol to soften the glue. This allowed me to lift the sticker with a sharp blade without ruining it. Fun fact: the bottom says opening the console will void the warranty. Of course the warranty is over but eve if the console was new it wouldn't. The FTC has deemed warranty stickers illegal in the US with some exceptions. Nevertheless, it was fun to try to get in unnoticed. The disassembly was pretty straightforward. A few screws here and there and a ton of cables to wiggle free. After everything was out of the body I opened the disc drive. I didn't see any tutorials for this type of drive. so I had to figure that out myself. Microsoft used different drives in different versions of the original Xbox. The disc drive is stuck for one of two reasons. Either the rubber band is too stretched and it slips of there is too much dust. I shrunk the band by boiling it for a minute or two. I blew all the dust off and whatever was left was cleaned off with isopropyl alcohol. I also wanted to replace the condensator which is used to keep the time and date if the xbox is unplugged. Condensator is basically a small battery.. Microsoft used cheap condensator for this and they start leaking eventually. Condensator contains acid which causes corrosion and might ruin the motherboard so I had to remove the condensator anyways. I replaced it with similar but different looking condensator. Only in v1.6 xbox the condensator won't start leaking. The corrosion was removed by washing the board with isopropyl alcohol. On the board there was also heat sink to cool the CPU and GPU. Between heat sink and the board there is always thermal past or thermal pad that is used to transfer heat. If there is air gaps the heat wont transfer efficiently enough. Also if the thermal paste dries, that can cause overheating so I replaced the paste. It's important to clean the old paste. A small drop of paste in the middle of the CPU is the best way to apply it. Some people draw X or something else silly but that might cause air bubbles. A simple drop is the best based on my research. Thanks for watching! Please follow the bellow links to support my channel. Restoring and repairing Xbox 360 with red ring of death and stuck disc drive. I got this Xbox as part of broken console lot from Ebay with some Playstations. I started by checking the error code the console gives. Mine is 1023, which is almost always related to a cold solder in CPU or GPU. The disc drive is also not working. I can hear it trying to open but I doesn't. To repair the red ring of death I used a heat gun. My heat gun is part of a soldering station but you can use a normal one also. Mine was set up to 400 degrees Celsius. The idea is to heat up the CPU and GPU until the solders underneath melt. The chips can be damaged by heat also so it's important to move the heat gun around. The board is pretty much ruined and not if you can't fix it, so you are not losing anything if you try this and fail. After the initial warm up I added flux which will help the reflow of the solder joints. During heating adding the flux you don't want to touch anything on the board because the solder should start melting and your parts can come off of the board and it can be very hard or impossible to put them back. After heating the CPU and GPU for a while I let the beard cool down before I touch it. Now the board is hopefully working. if not you can try again if you want. I could hear that the disc drive was trying to open so I figured it was probably just filled with dust. I tested it and the motor which spins the disc didn't move up and down as it should. This prevented the drive from opening. I removed the covers from the drive and cleaned it. After cleaning the disc drive was working well. Thank you for watching my video! - Restoring the Original Xbox 360 Controller 🤍 - In this video, I repair an Xbox 360 that suffers from the infamous Red Ring of Death (RROD). While this is a well-documented issue I was surprised at the lack of quality repair tutorials targeting DIYers. Most "reflow" videos are silly hacks (like wrapping your Xbox 360 in a towel) and even tutorials that suggest using a heat gun leaves a lot to be desired. For example, I didn't I think there can be a version of an at-home RROD repair that uses simple tools that anyone can follow, resulting in a permanent fix. To repair the red ring of death I used a heat gun according to Ifixit.com I set it up to 400 degrees Celsius. I'm starting by warming up the back of the motherboard for about one minute. The chips can be damaged by heat also so it's important to move the heat gun around. three inches away from the board the constant motion at this distance isn't going to melt anything on this large of a surface area. You should avoid the capacitors so that they don't get any direct heat. After the initial warm-up, I applied flux which will help the reflow of the solder joints. Unfortunately, I did not install the CPU heat sink correctly, I realized this mistake later after I finished the video so I corrected it after the video This video shows you everything you need to know about taking apart your Xbox 360. If you need to replace the fan or the disk drive this video will show you how to get inside and disassemble your system. Since this system isn't the newest on the market anymore, it's cheaper to replace the parts yourself than it is to send them in for repairs. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.

In this video I repair a parts Xbox from eBay with the intention of hard modding it and installing a larger hard drive. I restored an original Xbox about a month prior to this repair and it was my first time experiencing the original Xbox. Growing up everyone I knew had a PlayStation, and not one person in my group of friends owned an Xbox. It was amazing to play some original Xbox titles and see what made the system popular when it was released. I knew I wanted to mod the system, but I also wanted an unmodified system in my collection. I set about finding a parts unit to repair and buying everything else I needed for the mod. This was probably on the more challenging side for my experience level, but when I'm committed to something, I'm patient and I give it 100%. The first part of the restoration went flawlessly and I even impressed myself with how much my soldering has improved over the past year. Given the amount of work that needed to be done I decided to pause after completing the mod and will pick up the restoration in an upcoming video by installing a large SATA hard drive. My intention is to put the entire library of Xbox games on the disc and set this system up in my living room where I can play it more regularly. Thats the plan, we'll see how it goes. Stay tuned for the next part and thank you for watching and all the support. 🎵 Music Birds - Scandinavianz 🤍 Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: 🤍 Music promoted by Audio Library 🤍 Affiliated links below to some of the tools I use if you'd like to support the channel: 🖥 Composite and S-Video on my Mac USB Capture Card: 🤍 (Catalina 64-bit drivers can be found on the manufacturer's website) 🎮 Modchip Aladdin XT PLUS2: 🤍 Installation Guide: 🤍 🔧 Toolkit Screwdriver Set: 🤍 Automatic Wire Stripper: 🤍 White Lithium Grease: 🤍 🖌 Soldering Essentials TS100 Soldering Iron: 🤍 No Clean Flux Syringe: 🤍 No Clean Solder: 🤍 Desoldering Braid: 🤍 🔍 Soldering Add-ons Tip Tinner: 🤍 Helping Hands Soldering Aid: 🤍 🔥 Thermal Compounds Arctic MX-4 Thermal Paste: 🤍

About This Video: I bought 25 broken Xbox Elite Controllers to see if I could fix them. Controllers like this are hard to find replacement parts for and unfortunately, fixing controllers like this isn't a good way to make a profit but it does help keep them from ending up in a landfill. And it's fun to see how many I can figure out. Two of the more difficult fixes were diagnosing a weak rumble-motor and also fixing a controller that wouldn't stay connected (I got to use my wiring pencil for this fix).

We can fix your game console: 🤍 We take a brand new Xbox One S from the shipping box and tear it down to the bare motherboard. We take a look inside the internal power supply as well and the disc drive. ►Tools I Use: 🤍 You will see how to remove the two halves of the case by prying them open with pry tools, then we remove the green screws that hold the metal case inside the Xbox. The top case comes off easily with no ribbon cables attaching it to the rest of the console like with the Xbox One. After that we can see the hard drive, fan & heat sink, disc drive, power supply and motherboard. We remove the rest of the screws from the bottom and remove each component one by one. We open the power supply to have a look at the new, internal power supply. We also tear down the disc drive and compare it to the disc drive of the Xbox One. Restoring & repairing Xbox 360 controller that won't turn on and that is yellowed. I bought this controller as junk from Ebay. I started the restoration with disassembly. The shell is closed with safety torx screws, which means normal torx bit won't fir them. To remove the trigger buttons I need to bend the plastic so I can't recommend that unless it is necessary, even though the plastic is very well bending. I also removed the sticker with isopropyl alcohol so I can reapply it once I'm finished. After disassembly I cleaned the parts and put the yellowed plastic in the retrobrighting box I made on my other channel. Link to the video: 🤍 I used hydrogen peroxide UV-light and heat to remove the yellowing from the plastic. To open the battery pack I used some plastic tools, lots of force and patience. The pack is not meant to be opened but it can be done carefully without breaking anything. Once pack was opened I cleaned the battery contacts with isopropyl alcohol. Lastly the two halves were glued back together. Thank you for watching my video! The bellow links to amazon are affiliate links. #restoration #repair #gaming I Bought a Red Ring of Death Xbox 360 ! Can I Fix it? Xbox 360 Repair Retro Console Restoration-ASMR Restoring and repairing Xbox 360 with the red ring of death. I got this Xbox as part of a broken console lot from eBay. By checking the error code the console gives error code1023, which is almost always related to a cold solder in CPU or GPU. To repair the red ring of death I used a normal heat gun set it up to 400 degrees Celsius. The idea is to heat up the CPU and GPU until the solders underneath melt. Restoration & Repair of Xbox 360 with Red Ring of Death I Restored This Yellowed Joystick and Play New Games with it - Retro Gaming Restoration In this episode I restore a yellowed retro joystick. The model is QuickShot Python 5. The controller is yellowed and even though it was sold as working to me on ebay, it turned out to be drifting to right. Thank you for watching my video!

Restoring the Original Xbox 360 Controller - Retro Console Restoration & Repair - ASMR Restoration & Repair of broken Xbox 360 and Fix The Red Ring of Death 🤍 I show you how to remove the yellowing from vintage plastics with Retr0bright method. This time I restored the Original Xbox 360 Controller it is quite badly yellowed and dirty both inside and outside. I feel the controller is very simple compared to the Playstation controller, even though the original controller is not quite as advanced as the DualShock I've restored on this channel. Just a few screws holding the case closed. (Retrobrighting)To return the yellow color of the plastic to its true white color What was used in this video? 1- Hair color-lightening cream contains 9% Hydrogen peroxide 2- Sodium bicarbonate 3- OXI Action 4- Isopropyl Alcohol 5- Sunlight was used as a natural source of ultraviolet rays. How to Remove Yellow Stains from Plastic Whether they're from foods, sunlight, or chemical reactions, yellow stains often show up on plastic. There are many ways you can try to tackle these stains, such as soaking the plastic in bleach, rubbing alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide Coat the plastic in hydrogen peroxide to fix discoloration. Hydrogen peroxide works well on plastics that have turned entirely yellow instead of in just one spot. Fill a plastic bag with enough hydrogen peroxide to cover the plastic. Stick the plastic in the bag of hydrogen peroxide and lay it out in direct sunlight. Wait 3-4 hours before rinsing it off with clean water.[5] You can purchase hydrogen peroxide at a drugstore or big box store. If you’re treating some sort of plastic mechanism, make sure you remove all the parts that aren’t plastic before putting them into the hydrogen peroxide. You can also use an old toothbrush to scrub the hydrogen peroxide onto the plastic if desired If you like it please Subscribe! ASMR relaxation restoration
