Today we will learn how to use EEPROM with an Arduino to add nonvolatile memory to our projects. While there are many ways to accomplish this one of the simplest is by using EEPROM - Electrically Erasable Read-Only Memory. The Arduino already has some EEPROM built-in, not too much, but for many applications it will be more than enough. You can use it to retain settings in your project. If you need more nonvolatile memory you can add an external EEPROM chip. Today I will show you how to do both. The Arduino's internal EEPROM is very easy to work with, thanks to the EEPROM library included within the Arduino IDE. The library comes with several small example sketches, and we’ll see how to use those sketches in our first demo. We will also work with the AT24LC256, also called just the 24LC256 or 24C256. It’s an EEPROM chip that can store 256 Kilobits (or 32 KB) of data, and it uses the I2C bus for easy interfacing. We will use the external EEPROM to record servo motor movements and then play them back. This would be perfect for an automated display. Of course, you can build upon the sample code to add EEPROM to almost any project. The programmer supports page mode writes, and can program and verify a 32K EEPROM in about 30 seconds. I was looking for a serial device programmer to read the memory from my locked radio-cd and i come across this so simple circuit. It is a memory dumper that is compatible with 24cxx, 93xx and many more. As a serial programmer, you can use many software with it. I use pony prog ,it is reliable and simple. Links : 🤍
If you have questions on how to (de)solder/program the EEPROM, this video is not for you! I am not responsible if you brick or damage your cluster in any way. This method may or may not work for you! VW have many vendors who make clusters that look very similar physically but have completely different controller and memory mapping internally. So it is an absolute requirement for you to save the EEPROM before modifying! You need to have an original backup in case your memory mapping is different and so you can revert it back to original! This video is just showing you how i managed to enable needle sweep (staging) in my 2012 GTI cluster using EEPROM dump and reprogram. In my case it is actually possible to do this mod via VCDS (and i do have the genuine cable), but i just wanted to see if I can do it the basic way :). Mine is a VDO cluster (5K6 920 973 C) for your reference. Thanks for watching.

EEPROM on Arduino. EEPROM stands for Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory. The microcontrollers used on most of the Arduino boards have either 512, 1024 or 4096 bytes of EEPROM memory built into the chip.
