Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Poland that he would treat any “aggression” toward ally Belarus as an attack on his own country, following Warsaw’s decision to send troops to reinforce its eastern border in response to the presence of Wagner mercenary forces in its neighbor. “Aggression against Belarus will mean aggression against the Russian Federation,” Putin said in televised comments during a Security Council Meeting Friday. “We will respond to this with all the means at our disposal,” he said, referencing a long-established union state between Belarus and Russia. The threats, which could exacerbate tensions between Russia and Europe, aren’t the first the Kremlin has leveled against Poland, which is one of Kyiv’s biggest supporters in the war with Russia. Poland is a member of NATO and has shown no intention to take unilateral, unprovoked military action. In October of last year, Alexander Lukashenko swept to his fifth term as the Belarusian president, marking 22 years in power. Despite the elections being marred by allegations of fraud, the EU has this month lifted travel sanctions against Lukashenko's government, as a reward for good behavior — the elections passed without a repeat of 2010’s violent crackdown against opposition parties. But critics argue that the EU is making a dangerous endorsement of an autocratic regime that still employs the use of internet surveillance, censorship, and intimidation to exert control over its people and press. VICE News meets the Belarusian journalists and bloggers struggling to tell the truth about Belarus in this post-soviet dictatorship. Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together. Please feel free to subscribe to see more of this. I hope you have a great day! Stay happy! Please support me on Patreon! 🤍 Please support me on Ko-fi 🤍 The East Slavic languages constitute one of three regional subgroups of the Slavic languages, however, by number of speakers, East Slavic languages far outnumber the West Slavic and South Slavic language families. These languages are currently spoken natively throughout Eastern Europe, and eastwards to Siberia and the Russian Far East, while being also spoken as a lingua franca in many regions of Caucasus and Central Asia. If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here. Submit your recordings to otipeps24🤍gmail.com. Looking forward to hearing from you!
In this video, we present a language challenge that focuses on testing the mutual intelligibility between Belarusian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, and Polish. Mutual intelligibility refers to the ability of speakers of related languages to understand each other to some degree without prior knowledge or formal training. Through a series of language challenges, we explore the similarities and differences between these three Slavic languages. You will be able examine vocabulary, grammar structures, and pronunciation patterns to gauge the level of comprehension and ease of communication between speakers of the two languages. This language challenge not only provides an entertaining and educational experience but also highlights the interconnectedness of Slavic languages and the shared linguistic heritage of these countries. It showcases the potential for cross-cultural communication and understanding among speakers of related languages. Belarusian is an Eastern Slavic language spoken primarily in Belarus, a country situated in Eastern Europe. It is one of the official languages of Belarus and holds significance in the cultural and historical heritage of the region. 🤗 BIG THANKS to the participants of the challenge: Aleh, Michalina, Max and Konstantin for participating in this video. 🙏 Volunteer your language skills for the future videos → 🤍 🤓 Join the Ecolinguist DISCORD community → 🤍 🏋️♀️ Support my Work: My name is Norbert Wierzbicki and I am the creator of 🤍Ecolinguist channel. ☕️ Donations → 🤍 (I appreciate every donation no matter how big or small🤠) 📱 Follow me on Instagram: 🤍the.ecolinguist Join this channel to get access to perks: 🤍 🕰 Time Stamps: 📽Recommended Videos: Belarusian Language | Can Polish, Russian and Czech understand it? | feat. 🤍TutejszySzlachcicz → 🤍 🤓 Carpatho Rusyn Language | Can Polish and Czech understand? 🤍 Silesian Dialect Video Part 1 → 🤍 🤓🤓🤓 Kashubian language | Can Polish and Czech understand? → 🤍 🇵🇱💬🇨🇿Polish Czech Conversation → 🤍 🤠💬🤠 Slavic Languages Comparison → 🤍 🤗 Big hug to everyone reading my video descriptions! Belarusian is an East Slavic language primarily spoken in Belarus, a country located in Eastern Europe. It is also spoken by Belarusian diaspora communities in neighboring countries and around the world. Belarusian shares similarities with other Slavic languages, particularly Russian and Ukrainian, but has its own distinct features and characteristics. Belarusian has a rich literary history, with notable works dating back to the 16th century. It has been influenced by various linguistic and cultural factors throughout its development, including Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian influences. While the traditional and most widely used writing system for Belarusian is based on the Cyrillic alphabet, there is also a variant of the language written in the Latin alphabet. The Latin alphabet was historically used for writing Belarusian before the adoption of Cyrillic during the Soviet era. The Latin alphabet for Belarusian is known as the Łacinka or Łacinka-Belarusian alphabet. The use of the Latin alphabet for Belarusian has gained some popularity among certain circles, including diaspora communities and those involved in cultural and linguistic initiatives. It is often seen as a way to facilitate international communication and connect with other European languages using the Latin script. 🏋️♀️ Support my Work: My name is Norbert Wierzbicki and I am the creator of 🤍Ecolinguist channel. 📱 Instagram: 🤍the.ecolinguist 🙏 Volunteer your language skills for the future videos → 🤍 ☕️ Donations → 🤍 (I appreciate every donation no matter how big or small🤠) 🤓 Join the Ecolinguist DISCORD Server → 🤍 📽Recommended Videos: 🤓 Belarusian Language | Can Polish, Russian and Czech understand it? → 🤍 🤓 Carpatho Rusyn Language | Can Polish and Czech understand? 🤍 Silesian Dialect Video Part 1 → 🤍 🤓🤓🤓 Kashubian language | Can Polish and Czech understand? → 🤍 🇵🇱💬🇨🇿Polish Czech Conversation → 🤍 🤠💬🤠 Slavic Languages Comparison → 🤍 🤗 Big hug to everyone reading my video descriptions! Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko confirmed on Tuesday the arrival of the head of the Wagner Group in his country. Yevgeny Prigozhin, owner of the private army of prison recruits and other mercenaries who have fought some of the deadliest battles in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, escaped prosecution for his abortive armed rebellion against the Kremlin and is in Belarus, Lukashenko said. Appearing to address Prigozhin, the Belarusian president said his country would help the Wagner leader and some of his troops "if you want to stay with us for some time" at their own expense. "Such a unit in the army wouldn't hurt," he added. The exile of the 62-year-old owner of the Wagner Group was part of a deal that ended the short-lived mutiny in Russia. Prigozhin has not been seen since Saturday, when he waved to well-wishers from a vehicle in the southern city of Rostov. He issued a defiant audio statement on Monday. And on Tuesday morning, a private jet believed to belong to him flew from Rostov to an air base southwest of the Belarusian capital of Minsk, according to data from FlightRadar24. They share a common ideology and vision of totalitarian power yet reportedly, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko hate each other. As popular opposition in Belarus and the war in Ukraine force them closer and closer together, we examine the relationship between these two men. We also look back at Lukashenko’s rise to power and hear from some of the protestors brave enough to oppose him. Filmed undercover in Belarus in the weeks up to and just after the invasion of Ukraine. From her exile in Lithuania, a mother recounts how the KGB came looking for her four-year-old son. When a video of Victor attending a protest was seen on social media, the KGB sent photos of him to every kindergarten in Minsk asking the teachers to identify him. They escaped in time but Victor’s father was arrested and imprisoned for attending the same protest. Also in prison is Daria’s husband, Igor, an independent journalist who ran an information channel on the internet. Although he never overtly criticised the regime, he was still given a 15 year prison sentence. It was the grounding of a Ryan Air flight to arrest journalist Roman Protasevich that provoked stiff sanctions from Europe. In retaliation, Lukashenko lured tens of thousand of refugees from the Middle East and sent them towards Poland. When people started dying in the sub zero temperatures, he blamed Europe and went to play ice hockey with Vladimir Putin. It was a public sign of support from the Kremlin for a man they are bound to support. Without Russia’s aid, the 2020 popular protests would probably have ended Lukashenko’s regime. In return, Lukashenko has not only allowed Russia to station troops in Belarus, a recently held referendum also links the consolidation of his power with military support for Russia. It enables Lukashenko to stay in power until 2035 and Belarus to host Russian nuclear weapons. The Kremlin knows that any replacement would likely be pro-Western. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Belarus’ President-in-Exile, has promised to cut the links with the Kremlin and denounced the invasion of Ukraine. From her base in Vilnius, she tells how she is trying to prevent her country becoming a Russian proxy and how opposition figures abroad are constantly targeted. In Belarus, everyone knows they live under constant surveillance, ruled by a government that has lost its legitimacy and governs through force. The fear is that if Ukraine loses the war, its fate could be the same. Director: Pierre Chabert & Emilie Lob

Poland will send additional troops and military hardware to its eastern border after two Belarusian helicopters reportedly crossed into the NATO country's airspace Tuesday. "There was a violation of Polish airspace by two Belarusian helicopters that were training near the border," the Polish Defense Ministry said in a statement. Belarus dismissed the alleged violation as "far-fetched. Accusations of a violation of the Polish border by Mi-24 and Mi-8 helicopters of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense Forces are far-fetched and made by the Polish military and political leadership to justify the build-up of forces and means at the Belarusian border," Minsk said. Poland had inititially denied the incursion but then later said a "violation took place in the Bialowieza area at a very low altitude, hampering detection by radar systems." Minsk had informed Warsaw it intended to conduct training exercises in the area prior to the incident. Some Polish residents in the area had reported sighting Belarus helicopters overhead earlier in the day and posted photos and videos thereof on social media. Poland said NATO has been informed of the incursion. Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Belarus' charge d'affaires had been "immediately summoned" to explain the situation and that Warsaw had "issued a firm protest. The Polish side emphasized that the incident is perceived as another element of the escalation of tension on the Polish-Belarusian border. Poland expects Belarus to refrain from such activities," said the ministry. Poland and its neighboring countries on NATO's eastern flank have expressed concern regarding a possible threat from Russian ally Belarus, where a sizeable contingent of the Wagner mercenary group is currently stationed after having fled there on the heels of what has been billed as a short-lived coup attempt against the Kremlin in June. On Saturday, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki voiced alarm, claiming that a group of 100 Wagner mercenaries had moved closer to the border, and accusing them of preparing to help migrants cross into Poland as part of a hybrid effort to destabilize the country as it prepares for elections this fall. Poland and neighboring Lithuania, both of which are EU and NATO members, have struggled to stem the tide of largely Middle Eastern and African migrants seeking to cross their borders. Minsk has been accused of systematically luring migrants to come to Belarus with the intent of releasing them into the EU, a move Belarus strongman, Alexander Lukashenko, has denied. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko suggested Russian tactical nuclear weapons have already arrived in his country, even as Vladimir Putin said delivery would only begin next month. “We have missiles and bombs, we have received from Russia,” Lukashenko told a Russian TV reporter in an interview posted by the Belarusian state-owned Belta news service late Tuesday. He then boasted that the weapons are “three times more powerful” than the atomic bombs dropped on Japan’s Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II, saying they were capable of killing a million people “immediately.” When the reporter asked him to clarify that the nuclear weapons promised by Russia had been delivered, however, Lukashenko chuckled and appeared to backtrack. Saying they were taking the issue “slowly,” he promised to blindfold the journalist and take her to a storage facility to see the weapons “once we get them.” Subscribe to our YouTube channel: 🤍 Subscribe to Bloomberg Originals: 🤍 Bloomberg Quicktake brings you global social video spanning business, technology, politics and culture. Why did senior Russian leadership just visit Belarus? On Monday December 19 (2022), Russian President Vladimir Putin landed in Belarus for talks with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko for the first time since 2019. Putin was joined by Foreign Secretary Lavrov and Defense Minister Shoigu. Western sources suggest Putin may be coordinating a renewed offensive into Ukraine this winter with Lukashenko. While Belarusian territory has been used by the Russian military in the war, Belarus has not yet committed troops to the conflict despite long-running rumors and the expansion of his forces this year—perhaps due to concerns about popularity at home.
