A decade ago, OpenLayers was the number one choice for a web mapping library. With the rewrite in 2012 and the arising competition of Leaflet and Mapbox GL JS, there was a phase when the project lost popularity. Today, it has found its niche as a full-featured, flexible and high-performance geospatial JavaScript library that users can count on for the long haul, especially when their mapping needs get more complex. This talk will provide you with a tour of the latest features in the library, including daring live demonstrations. We will present our recent and ongoing work on adding new features and making the library more fun to work with. FOSS4G 2021 - Wegue - Webmapping with OpenLayers and Vue.js

04.11.2021

Wegue combines the mapping capabilities of OpenLayers with the structure of the Vue.js framework. It contains many predefined geospatial components like layer tree, attribute table or measure tools. These are bundled in an configurable template that is ready to handle typical webmapping use cases. Wegue [1][2] is a software for creating modern lightweight webmapping applications. It is based on the JavaScript frameworks OpenLayers [3] and Vue.js [4]. OpenLayers takes care of reading and displaying the geospatial data. Vue.js is used for structuring the project's code (according to MVVM) and allows the creation of custom web components which display nicely on both mobile and desktop devices. Wegue links these two frameworks to a template for webmapping applications and provides reusable UI components based on the established UI library Vuetify [5]. Included examples are: layer list, attribute table, feature info dialogue, measure tools, permalink or geocoder. A central feature of Wegue is the ability to define most of the application's functionality with a configuration file. However, it is still possible to tailor Wegue to custom needs with classical HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Wegue has started in 2018. In the meantime, the project has matured and has been used in several real-world projects. It has been extended and improved in many places and is currently on its way to version 1.0. The presentation will give a short overview of the Wegue ecosystem as well as the innovations of the last months. In addition, some practical examples will be presented. Vector Tiles with GeoServer and OpenLayers

27.05.2016

by David Blasby The latest release of GeoServer adds support for creating Vector Tiles in GeoJSON, TopoJSON, and MapBox Vector Tiles format through its WMS service for all the vector data formats it supports. These tiles can be cached using GeoWebCache (built into GeoServer), and served with the various tiling protocols (TMS, WMTS, and WMS-C). Thanks to very recent OpenLayers 3 development, these Vector Tiles can be easily and efficiently styled on a map. This technical talk will look at how GeoServer makes Vector Tiles accessible through standard OGC services and how they differ from normal WMS and WFS usage. It will also look at how OpenLayers 3 - as a simple-to-use vector tiles client - interacts with GeoServer to retrieve tiles and effectively manage and style them. OpenLayer 3’s extensive style infrastructure will be investigated, as well as using PostGIS to prepare data for efficient tiling.

Animations are smooth, but I recorded this video on my tablet (Chuwi Hi10), that is why it is working a little slower. LeafletJS and Openlayers are two popular web map libraries aka "slippy maps". Using their built in functions, you can easily pull in the CloudRF API to enhance your map. 🤍 Technical description: In each case, a Javascript click handler is added to detect the click and transform the XY position to EPSG:4326 co-ordinates (Latitude, Longitude). These are passed to a function which calls the API using a JSON radio template which contains the settings. The transmitter.lat and transmitter.lon objects are set with the click location and the JSON sent to the endpoint at 🤍 The resulting JSON contains an EPSG:3857 image overlay and EPSG:4326 bounds which are used to add an image layer to the map. A CloudRF account is required to do this outside of Ibiza. 🤍
